After the climax of Season 8, the producers of the show were unsure of whether or not SG-1 would continue[1]. However, after it was indeed renewed for Season 9, with both the Goa'uld and Replicators defeated the show adopted a more powerful enemy, a revived style, and an overall new atmosphere. This season is also marked by the departure of Richard Dean Anderson. The show is still dealing with what it is to be a god, or what it is to deserve worship, as one of its main themes. In addition, Season 9 begins greater intertwining with the plot of Stargate Atlantis.
